New York hosts Tribal Art Week

Early in May, Arader Galleries welcomed dealers from around the world and played host to some of the most interesting and intriguing African, Asian, Oceanic and Native American works of art I have ever seen. These art exhibits also attracted some of the most interesting and intriguing people I have ever met (which as New Yorker, I rarely say).  I stumbled across these two gems as we were both admiring tiny little statues in an unnecessarily large glass case.  They were dressed in black from head-to-toe, wearing sunglasses, platform shoes, bright red lipstick and looked nothing like the rest of the highbrow art crowd in attendance.  Naturally, I had to introduce myself.

“What brought you two fabulous ladies here tonight?”

Valerie and Jean, known in the fashion world as the Idiosyncratic Fashionistas, just looked at me, then at each other, then back at me…. “Art! What else!”
